'The Works' Pizza Dip

September 1, 2013
Enjoy all the flavors of pizza with the works ... in dip form ... with this scrumptious 'The Works' Pizza Dip.

The Works Pizza Dip

I think pizza may just be my favorite food.  And I like pretty much any kind.  Plain cheese ... sure.  Pepperoni & mushroom ... love.  Wacked out crazy flavor combinations ... absolutely.  'The Works' ... bring it on!

As I kid, I loved it when my parents decided it was 'pizza night.'  And I especially loved it when we got pizza 'with the works' ... you know, with everything on it.  Yes, even as a kid I loved crazy flavors.

Well, the other night, I decided to enjoy my pizza with the works in dip form.

Now, I'm going to make a confession here ... I have a really bad habit of getting pizza for dinner when my husband goes out of town.  Now, that in-and-of-itself is not so bad.  The bad part is that I tend to over indulge in said pizza.  It just kinda keeps calling my name from the refrigerator.  {You know how it is, right?  That little pizza voice calling out, "Eat me!  Eat me!"}  And before I know it, I've eaten way more than I should.

So when my husband went out of town this weekend, I changed up my pizza habit just a tad.  I decided I might be able to demonstrate a teeny bit more restraint with pizza dip than with the big ol' pizza pie itself.

I whipped up a batch of 'The Works' Pizza Dip ... complete with all the flavors of delicious loaded-with-everything pizza ...

The Works Pizza Dip

... but if you don't' like all the flavors of 'the works,' you can whip up a simpler version, like this one ...

... and then ... chips in hand ... I dove in.

Ahhhhhhh, pizza craving satisfied.  And with maybe just a teeny tiny bit more restraint than with actual pizza.

  • 1 (8 oz.) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 c. mayonnaise
  • 1 1/2 c. shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 c. jarred spaghetti sauce
  • 3 oz. turkey pepperoni slices
  • 1/2 c. pre-cooked turkey sausage crumbles (about 1/4 lb. sausage)
  • 1/4 c. finely chopped green pepper
  • 1/4 c. sliced green onions
  • 1/4 c. finely chopped mushrooms
  1. In a small mixing bowl, combine cream cheese, mayonnaise, and 1/2 cup of the shredded mozzarella cheese. Spread in the bottom of a 9-inch pie plate lightly coated with non-stick cooking spray. Spread the spaghetti sauce evenly over the cheese layer.
  2. Set aside 9 slices of pepperoni for the top of the dip. Coarsely chop the remaining pepperoni. Sprinkle the chopped pepperoni, sausage crumbles, green pepper, green onion, and mushrooms evenly over the sauce layer. Top with remaining 1 cup mozzarella cheese and reserved whole pepperoni slices.
  3. Bake, uncovered, at 350 degrees for 30 - 35 minutes until lightly browned and bubbly around the edges. Serve hot with tortilla chips, crackers, or baguette slices.
Note ~ Adjust toppings to suit your personal taste.
