When it comes to holiday meals, I'm hard-pressed to decide what I like best ... all the tasty sides or all the fabulous pies. It's a decision that's not easy for me to make. But one thing I can say for sure, I truly couldn't care less about the main dish. That's right, I could totally go without the Thanksgiving turkey or the Christmas ham. Just pass the mashed potatoes, creamy broccoli casserole, and pumpkin slab pie, please!
If it came right down to it and I was forced to choose, I guess I would have to say my favorite part of holiday meals is ...
The pies.
I mean, how can you have a Thanksgiving dinner without pumpkin pie, right? Or, a slice of pecan slab pie. Or in our family, no Christmas dinner is complete without some chocolate crack pie. Pies are a holiday dinner staple I just can't resist.
Now the pies in-and-of-themselves are fantastic. So there's only one thing that can make a fantastic slice of pie even better ... a creamy dollop of freshly-whipped homemade whipped cream.
And if that freshly-whipped dollop of homemade whipped cream is spiked with Kahlua? Then that's even better!
Kahlua Whipped Cream adds a wonderful extra special and extra flavorful touch to holiday {and everyday} pies and desserts. The flavor is a sweet touch of Kahlua, without the Kahlua being too overpowering or tasting harshly of alcohol.
Kahlua Whipped Cream is just as easy to make as "regular" whipped cream, too. To make it, all you do is add a shot of Kahlua to the whipping cream when you add in the sugar and vanilla extract. That's it! No extra steps needed. {If you're a bourbon fan, check out my bourbon whipped cream, too. It's soooo good.}
The only other difference from making regular whipped cream is that I use brown sugar instead of the usual granulated sugar. Brown sugar pairs nicely with the Kahlua and adds a little deeper flavor than granulated white sugar.
We enjoyed this spiked whipped cream with pumpkin pie and apple pie, but it would go beautifully with pecan pie or chocolate pie, too.
Because there's always room for pie! Especially when it's topped with this totally delicious Kahlua Whipped Cream.

prep time: 10 Mcook time: total time: 10 M
ingredients:
- 1 c. whipping or heavy cream
- 2 T. light brown sugar
- 1 ½ to 2 T. (3/4 to 1 oz.) Kahlua
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
instructions:
How to cook Kahlua Whipped Cream
- Chill a large mixing bowl and beaters for an electric mixer {this helps the cream whip better}. Place whipping cream in chilled bowl and beat with an electric mixer on high speed until thickened and fluffy, about 2 minutes.
- Add brown sugar, Kahlua, and vanilla. Beat until stiff peaks form, about 2 minutes more.
- Cover and chill until ready to serve.
TRACEY'S NOTES
- A little bit of the Kahlua may "settle out" of the whipped cream over time. If this happens, just give the whipped cream a little stir at serving time to mix it back in.

ReplyDeleteCakes have always been my thing because scratch crusts were always a hassle and the store bought ones are just, blah. That being said, looking at this round up here I'm ready to break out my rolling pin. Thanks for the inspiration and for sharing with us again this week at Celebrate Your Story.
