To say that my husband and daughter like meat is a major understatement. For my husband, a meal isn't a meal if it doesn't include meat. And for my daughter? -- She'd be quite satisfied if a big hunk of meat was all that graced her plate.

As for me, I much prefer my meat in casserole form or as just a small portion of my meal. Give me the veggies and creamy comfort-food sides instead, for sure! And as I'm sure you can imagine, since casseroles and sides are my preference, that's the direction my cooking style has developed over the years too.

So what does a casserole-cooker-type do when she has a husband and daughter who absolutely love to eat "plain" meat?

She learns to cook "plain" meat, that's what!

So while I've been giving myself practice at baking, pan-frying, and roasting meats with homemade shake & bake chicken thighs, whole roasted chicken, baked ham, Mama's stovetop pork roast, and pan-fried pork chops -- I've also been expanding my repertoire of easy not-completely-"plain" meat recipes, too.

Like these easy skillet Sweet BBQ Pork Chops, courtesy of my sister-in-law.

Because while I am certainly okay with a "plain" baked or pan-fried piece of meat, I'd much prefer something a little more jazzed up. The sweet BBQ sauce in which these pork chops are simmered does just that ~ jazzes the pork chops up with a whole lot of flavor. Which makes them the perfect pork chops dish to satisfy all the tastes in a our family.

Skillet Sweet BBQ Pork Chops Ingredients:

Boneless pork chops + a sweet barbecue-based simmering sauce come together to create this tasty dinner dish. To whip up a pan, you'll need:

  • Boneless pork loin chops - Trimmed with the bone and fat removed, boneless pork loin chops cook quickly for this easy weeknight dinner dish. Choose chops that are 3/4-inch thick for the best result. -- When seared and then simmered in the recipe's sauce, they turn out tender and tasty.

  • Salt & pepper - Don't underestimate the power of salt & pepper in preparing flavorful meat! Even when prepared with a sauce, meat benefits greatly from being generously seasoned with salt and pepper before being cooked. In this recipe, season both sides of the pork chops before searing.

  • Barbecue sauce + ketchup - This combination serves as the base of the dish's sweet barbecue sauce. Choose your favorite prepared barbecue sauce. -- We use Sweet Baby Ray's Hickory & Brown Sugar.

  • French salad dressing - With its signature taste, bottled French salad dressing brings a characteristic flavor and tang to the sweet BBQ sauce. Catalina dressing is very similar to French dressing, and can be substituted, no problem.

  • Brown sugar + honey - The recipe name is "Sweet BBQ," right? This combo builds on the sweetness of the sauce's ketchup and French salad dressing, developing nice depth of flavor.

  • Onion - Finely chopped onion seasons the sauce and brings a flavorful savory element to balance its sweetness.
