Cinnamon Sugar Donut Hole Muffin Ingredients:
It's nice that you can whip up a batch of Cinnamon Sugar Donut Hole
Muffins with pretty basic pantry staples. -- Nothing fancy required here!
To whip up a batch, you'll need:
- Flour - Basic all-purpose flour forms the foundation of the muffin batter.
- Cornstarch - Helps create a nice tender texture in the finished baked muffins.
- Baking powder - The leavening agent that creates the muffin's rise.
- Salt - As with most things, salt enhances the muffins' flavor. It also works with the baking powder to help maximize the muffins' rise.
- Ground nutmeg - Flavors the donut hole muffins, giving a nice subtle taste of nutmeg.
- Buttermilk - The main liquid ingredient in the batter, buttermilk creates a very moist and tender texture in the baked muffins.
- Whole egg + an egg yolk - Since egg yolks contain more fat than egg whites, using 2 egg yolks (along with only one egg white) helps bring richness and soft texture to the the baked muffins.
- Melted butter - Melted butter is used in both the muffin batter and the donuts' coating. Dipping the baked muffins in melted butter before rolling in the cinnamon-sugar brings rich flavor to the muffins and helps the cinnamon-sugar coating adhere.
- Granulated sugar - Sweetens both the muffin batter and the cinnamon-sugar coating.
- Ground cinnamon - It wouldn't be cinnamon sugar muffins without the cinnamon! A hearty dose of ground cinnamon in the muffins' coating brings that wonderful signature cinnamon taste.
How to Make Cinnamon Sugar Donut Hole Muffins:
Cinnamon Sugar Donut Hole Muffins are pretty easy to make. -- Just
mix, scoop, bake, and coat in cinnamon-sugar.
To get a batch started, mix up a basic buttermilk batter. As with most
baked goods (especially muffins), when adding the flour mixture to the wet ingredients stir everything
together until they're just barely combined. Do not overmix, as
overmixing can result in tough -- rather than tender -- baked
muffins.
Use either a 1-tablespoon cookie scoop or a tablespoon measuring
spoon to scoop 1 tablespoon of batter for each Donut Hole Muffin. Spray the scoop or spoon with non-stick cooking spray so the batter
will slide out easily.
Then place the scooped batter in the cups of a mini muffin pan.
Pop the pan in the oven and bake the muffins for 10 minutes, until a
toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Place
the muffin tin on a cooling rack and let the muffins cool in the pan for
10 minutes.
After the 10 minutes of cooling, remove the muffins from the pan and
place them directly on the cooling rack. Place the cooling rack inside
a rimmed baking sheet -- the baking sheet will catch the butter and
cinnamon-sugar spillover as you coat the muffins. If you do not have a rimmed baking sheet large enough to set the cooling
rack into, you can place a layer of wax paper under the cooling rack
to catch the spillover instead.
Working with about 4 muffins at a time, use a pastry brush to cover
each muffin in melted butter.
Then, while the butter is still wet, roll each buttered muffin in
cinnamon sugar to coat.
Place the coated muffins back on the cooling rack to let the
cinnamon-sugar coating set.
Then you're ready to enjoy the deliciousness! Serve Cinnamon Sugar Donut Hole Muffins up right away while they're
warm, or later at room temperature. -- Because hey, these tasty little
bites are fabulous either way.
With their tasty buttermilk muffin inside fully coated in sweet cinnamon
sugar on the outside, Cinnamon Sugar Donut Hole Muffins deliver up
fabulously delicious donut flavor in every bite.
