classic piggies. To whip up a batch, you'll need:
- Hillshire Farm Lit'l Smokies or other mini hot dogs - It's not Pigs In a Blanket without the piggies! There are about 35 to 40 links in each 12-ounce package of Lit'l Smokies, so a single package should work just fine for this recipe.
- Crescent Rolls - Crescent roll dough forms the blanket around each Lit'l Smokie link.
- Mustard - Choose spicy brown mustard or regular yellow mustard, to suit your taste preference.
- Relish - Sweet pickle relish is a classic hot dog topping, and brings a hint of sweetness to this pigs in a blanket version.
- White onion - Because they are so mild, white onions work well in this recipe. You could also use a Vidalia or any other type of sweet onion.
- Sauerkraut - Another classic loaded hot dog topping. Be sure to thoroughly drain the kraut and pat it dry with a paper towel before assembling the pigs in a blanket.
How to Make Pigs In a Blanket With the Works:
"The Works" Pigs In a Blanket come together in the same easy way as their
traditional counterparts, just with a few topping ingredients tucked
inside the blanket alongside the piggies.
Start by unrolling the crescent roll dough and separating it into
triangles along the perforations.
Then cut each triangle through the point into two pieces, creating two
long triangles from each.
Spread about 1/2 teaspoon mustard over the surface of each crescent dough
piece.
Place about 3/4 teaspoon each of relish, sauerkraut and onion toward the
wide end of each crescent dough piece. Then place a Lit'l Smokie on
top.
Beginning at the wide end, roll each Lit'l Smokie up in the crescent dough,
ending at the dough's tip. Each Lit'l Smokie should peek out a bit on both
sides of the roll.
Place the rolled up piggies on a baking sheet that's been greased with
non-stick cooking spray. Then back them for about 15 minutes until
they're nice and golden brown.
