October 29, 2020
Loaded with wonderful creaminess and sweet cherry flavor, Cherry Cheesecake Fluff is truly like eating a slice of fluffy cherry cheesecake for dessert.  And with its mix of cream cheese, whipped cream, marshmallows, and cherry pie filling, it's one very tasty little dessert, indeed.

Fluff recipes always teeter on the edge between salads and desserts.  With their usual mix of some form of fruit, marshmallows, whipped cream, and some type of nuts for crunch, it can be hard to say which category they fall in.

Is it a side dish, like we generally think for Watergate Salad and classic Ambrosia Salad?  Or is it a dessert, like the old-fashioned dime store favorite Sea Foam Salad?

Well when it comes to this Cherry Cheesecake Fluff, it is decidedly a dessert.

With its mix of cream cheese, whipped cream, marshmallows, and cherry pie filling, it's one very tasty dessert, indeed.

Just like with our easy chocolate fluff recipe, Cherry Cheesecake Fluff falls squarely in the dessert category.  And with its mix of cream cheese, whipped cream, marshmallows, and cherry pie filling, it's one very tasty dessert, indeed.

But hey, if you want to go ahead and enjoy it as a side dish, we certainly won't judge.

Cherry Cheesecake Fluff is light and fluffy, with just a hint of texture from the recipe's mini marshmallows.  No nuts are included in this one to give noticeable crunch like in so many fluffs, but you could certainly add them if you'd like.

And the flavor?  It is soooo good. -- Sweet and loaded with wonderful cherry flavor, it's truly like eating a fluffy slice of cherry cheesecake.  This is one fluff that folks in our family fight over who gets to eat the last bit, for sure.

Cherry Cheesecake Fluff Ingredients

Made with just 5 simple ingredients, Cherry Cheesecake Fluff truly couldn't be much easier to make.  To whip up a big bowlful, you'll need:

  • Cream cheese - Creates the cheesecake component of the fluff.  I recommend using full-fat regular cream cheese, though lower-fat Neufchatel cream cheese will also work.

  • Granulated sugar - Sweetens up the cream cheese, just as in regular cheesecake recipes.

  • Cool Whip - Brings the fluff's creaminess.  Substitute freshly-whipped homemade whipped cream, if you prefer.

  • Mini marshmallows - A fluff recipe staple ingredient.  Brings a springy little textural element and sweetness to the fluff.

  • Cherry pie filling - Brings the namesake cherry-flavor to the fluff.

How to Make Cherry Cheesecake Fluff

To whip up a bowl of Cherry Cheesecake Fluff, start by combining softened cream cheese and some sugar.

Place the cream cheese in a large bowl, and then use an electric mixer to mix in granulated sugar.  The electric mixer helps ensure the sugar gets fully incorporated and that the cream cheese is nice and smooth.

Then by hand, mix in a container of Cool Whip until it's well combined with the cream cheese mixture.  You could use the electric mixer for this step if you'd like -- keep the mixer on low speed, and don't overmix though.

Finally, by hand fold in a can of cherry pie filling and some mini marshmallows.  Do not use the electric mixer for this step -- an electric mixer will break up the cherries and marshmallows, which wouldn't be good.

Pop the fluff in the refrigerator to chill for at least two hours before serving, allowing the flavors to meld and the marshmallows to soften.

Then you're good to go to enjoy the creamy Cherry Cheesecake Fluff deliciousness!  Super easy to make, right?
