This Ground Beef Broccoli Pie recipe is an oldie-but-goodie from my childhood.

Growing up, I remember Mom making this for dinner pretty often.  And I remember I was excited every time - Along with her beef stroganoff casserole and easy goulash, it was one of my favorites in her dinner line-up.

The mixture of ground beef, broccoli, and creamy cheesiness in the filling is a fabulously tasty flavor combination.

And I love that this pie uses packaged crescent rolls as its crust.  This also brings a wonderful flavor to this savory pie, far beyond what a traditional standard pie crust would.  Plus, the crescent roll crust bakes up a little puffier than a regular pie crust does, too, and brings nice texture to the finished dish.

So how do you make Ground Beef Broccoli Pie with its extra-tasty crescent roll crust?

The first step is to make the beef and broccoli filling.

The filling is a creamy mixture of browned ground beef, onion, milk, cream cheese, and seasonings thickened up a bit, and then topped with shredded Monterey Jack cheese.  It comes together pretty quickly in a skillet on the stove top.

Once the filling is made, the next step is to prepare the bottom crescent roll crust.

Open one package of crescent rolls and fit the dough into the bottom and up the sides of a 9-inch pie dish.  You'll need to tear once section of the dough off and fit it into one side of the pie dish to shape the crust - It doesn't all need to be "pretty" when you're fitting it in.

Gently pinch the dough together at the seams to seal it.

Spoon the ground beef and broccoli filling into the bottom crust, and then top the filling mixture with shredded Monterey Jack cheese.

Then add on the pie's top crust.

I've found the easiest way to do this is to unroll the second package of crescent roll dough right across the center of the pie.  And then cut off the overhanging section of dough with a sharp knife, like this:

Then cut that removed overhanging section of dough into two pieces, fitting one of the pieces on each uncovered side of the pie, like this:

Pinch the dough seams with your fingers to seal them, and you've got yourself a finished crescent roll crust!

Brush the top of the crust with a little bit of milk to keep it from browning too much while it bakes, and then pop the pie in the oven.

Once the pie is baked, you'll have a nice golden-brown crust, like this:

Let the pie stand at room temperature for about 10 minutes before cutting and serving so the filling won't run and spill out all over the place when you cut into the pie.  The filling needs that little bit of time to just set up a bit.
