I have a special place in my heart for no-bake desserts.

Mostly because they tend to be the stuff of creamy-comfort ... and I just love, love, love a good creamy comfort-food dessert.  But also because they're usually easy.  And always taste great.  And ... the most obvious reason ... they require no baking.

Because sometimes ya know, I just don't feel like turning on that oven.

So when the monthly recipe challenge group I participate in chose 'No-Bake Desserts' as our latest theme, one could say I was quite excited.

The hardest part of our no-bake dessert challenge for me?  ... Deciding which of my favorite desserts to go with as my contribution to the challenge!

I decided to whip up a peach version of my husband Mark's favorite 'Yum Yum' ... a classic layered no-bake dessert with a crust layer {typically shortbread or graham cracker crust} and pie filling sandwiched between two fluffy whipped cream/cream cheese layers.

The reason I chose Peach Yum Yum is because this is one no-bake dessert that holds a special place in my husband's heart, too.

See my husband's grandmother ... Nanny, as she was called ... used to make him pans of Yum Yum all the time, he says.  She usually made strawberry Yum Yum or cherry, and Mark says Cherry Yum Yum and Blueberry Yum Yum were always his absolute favorites.

I'm sure many a-story and many a-wonderful grandmother-grandson moments were shared over those yummy pans of Yum Yum, prepared with Nanny's love.

When he was working in a bank during the summer throughout high school and college, he'd head on over to Nanny's during his lunch break to spend time with her for lunch.  And to see what she'd made him as a dessert treat, I suspect.

I'm sure many a-story and many a-wonderful grandmother-grandson moments were shared over those yummy pans of Yum Yum and other treats, prepared with Nanny's love.

I've changed Nanny's recipe up just a bit, here ... adding some spices to the crust ... including homemade whipped cream in the filling ... and changing out peach for her usual strawberry or cherry filling.

But I think Nanny would still approve of this Peach Yum Yum version.

And I know for a fact that Mark and Nanny both will forever cherish those stories and memories shared alongside their tasty platefuls of Yum Yum.

How to cook NO-BAKE DESSERTS {EASY} NO-BAKE PEACH YUM YUM

  1. PREPARE CRUST: In a bowl, combine graham cracker crumbs, cinnamon, and ground cloves. Add melted butter and blend with a fork until crumbs are moistened. Set aside 2 tablespoons of crumbs to sprinkle on the top.
  2. Press crumb mixture into the bottom of a 9x9-inch pan that's been sprayed with non-stick cooking spray.
  3. PREPARE FILLING: With an electric mixer, cream together softened cream cheese and 1/2 cup sugar until smooth. In a separate bowl, whip the whipping cream , 3 tablespoons sugar, and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form. By hand, mix together whipped cream and cream cheese mixture until well combined.
  4. ASSEMBLE YUM YUM LAYERS: Spread a little less than half the whipped cream/cream cheese mixture evenly over the crust. Evenly spread peach pie filling over the whipped cream layer. Top pie filling layer with the remaining whipped cream/cream cheese mixture. Sprinkle the top with the reserved graham cracker crumbs.
  5. Refrigerate for several hours or overnight.
TRACEY'S NOTES
  1. You could substitute Cool Whip non-dairy whipped topping for the homemade whipped cream, if you'd like.

  14. I made this using the home made whipping cream and it was delicious! But because of arthritis in my hands and wrists I found the whipping difficult. Am going to try using the Cool Whip. Would I still need to add the sugar and vanilla? Also, could I double this using a 9 x 13 pan?

  20. I love family food memories, and I so enjoyed reading this post, Tracey. I'm so glad you used real whipped cream in the recipe as Cool Whip isn't available here, and so many recipes call for it! (Although i appreciate you offered it as a variation.) This Peach Yum Yum does indeed look yum yum - and I'll be featuring it at this week's Hearth and Soul Link Party. Thank you so much for sharing it. Hope to 'see' you there!
