Enjoy ham salad as a yummy sandwich filling or as a topping on crackers. Either way, it's delicious.

Ham Salad Ingredients:

It takes just 5 ingredients to make creamy ham salad. To whip up a batch, you'll need:

  • Fully cooked ham - Obviously, the main component of ham salad. Fully cooked ham without a strong-flavored glaze work best, as strong glazes can overtake the flavor of the finished ham salad.
  • Hard-boiled egg - Finely chopped hard-boiled egg adds great flavor to the ham salad.
  • Sweet salad cubes - Seasons the ham salad, adding a touch of sweet flavor. Look for sweet salad cubes with relish and other condiments in the grocery store, or substitute sweet pickle relish instead. (see more information below in this post)
  • Mayonnaise - Brings the creamy factor to the ham salad. Increase or decrease the amount of mayo to create the texture you prefer.
  • Black pepper - Helps season the ham salad. Since ham tends to be salty itself, salt is generally not needed. -- Though add a small touch of salt, to taste, if you'd like.

When I make my salad, I like to include a generous amount of sweet salad cubes:

Salad cubes taste the same as sweet pickle relish, but they're in bigger chunks and less "mushy" than relish. With their bigger size, sweet salad cubes add a wonderful bit of texture and crunch to the finished salad.

How to Make Ham Salad:

Ham Salad is truly easy to make. To get a batch started, process some fully cooked ham in a food processor until it's finely chopped, or mince it finely with a knife. Finely chop some hard-boiled egg and combine it with the ham. Add in sweet salad cubes (or sweet pickle relish) and a little bit of black pepper. Then stir in mayonnaise, adding enough to make the ham salad smooth and creamy.

Pop it in the refrigerator to chill for about an hour before to let the flavors meld. Then you're ready to enjoy its deliciousness.

So if you've got that laaaaaast little bit of ham left that you don't want to go to waste, whip up this easy, creamy ham salad. Loaded with fabulous flavor, it's sure to please.

  1. You didn't take too much ham.....I'm even giving it to the neighbors! Remind next year not to buy such a big one. I'll make this ham salad tomorrow.

    1. I'm sure the neighbors are enjoying your cooking. Enjoy the ham salad! :-)

  2. Yum! Love Ham Salad!

  3. This is such a genius idea!!!! Love the egg in there too! YUM!

    1. Thank you, Jen. The egg seems to cut a little of the ham's saltiness, 'smoothing' it out nicely.

  4. This reminds me of my grandma! She would always make ham salad! Thank you for the memories and thank you for sharing on Show Me Saturday!

  5. This looks like a great sandwich filling, yum! Thanks for linking up to Sweet and Savoury Sunday, stop by and link up again. Have a great day!!

I have never heard of ham salad looks yummy...Love the fact you use Mt. Olive pickles that's my hometown!

  7. Okay so I have never had ham salad. I KNOW. But now I think I need to try it.

  8. Can I leave out the egg? My son is allergic to them. (I do have an egg-free Mayo, so that's not a problem.)

  9. So glad to see this old recipe come back into use. A lot of senior,in age, cooks have done done this for years and also use left over roast the same way. It makes a yummy sandwich spread as well.

  10. I use Bread n Butter pickles in my ham salad. Try it...you'll like it!

  11. I always add finely diced celery and a small pinch of "hot mustard" (powder) along with of course, sweet relish, mayo and pepper.

  12. This looks wonderful! I’ll have to try this this week!

  13. I have never heard of the sweet salad cubes, but you’d better believe they’re going right on the list and into my shopping cart 🛒 this afternoon when I go to market!!! What a wonderful idea! The exact “mushiness” you speak of is what I hate about pickle relish. I know our local Hy-Vee store carries the amount Olive brand, so I’ll look for it. THANK YOU! And yes...HAM SALAD ROCKS!!!!!

  14. I love this stuff! and haven't had it for years. So glad to have found the recipe. :)

  15. and if you don't have ham....use good old baloney....we always make ham salad from baloney!!! But I prefer dill relish....

  16. what are salad cubes and where do i get them

  17. There are about as many recipes for Ham Salad as there are cooks. The best I've EVER encountered is made with half Cooked Ham & half Bologna ground together. Add to this some Mayo and finely diced celery & chives. Also, add some Sweet Pickle Relish (to taste). I never heard of adding eggs into this salad, and I definitely wouldn't (even though I like eggs.) We serve it on Croissants with Boston Lettuce. Everyone always loves it!

  18. A great recipe. Ham Salad is soooo good. Your recipe has been pinned! Thank you!

  19. I have not had ham salad since I was a little girl. Come visit the Classy Flamingos blog party some time. I'm always looking for good cooks.

  20. Thanks for sharing at the What's for Dinner Party! Enjoy the rest of your week!

  21. So delicious!!! Easy and good salad 😎
I served with lettuce and salad in the top !!! Very good!!!
