You know those French fried onions that come in a little can?  Well, they're not just for green bean casserole!

Nope.  Those little French fried onions are also one of the star ingredients in this tasty little taco-spiced snack mix.  And, man, is this stuff addictive.

French fried onions, potato sticks, and peanuts ... oh my!  Bake them up with delicious homemade taco seasoning and you have a tasty taco snacking treat.

I have to admit that I am a Chex Mix addict.  I've loved the stuff since wayyy before you could buy it pre-made in the grocery stores.  Remember those days of making your own Chex Mix at home?  I still whip up my own batch of homemade Chex Mix every now and then, since I love the taste even more than I love the store-bought kind.

And now I have a new snack mix to add to my make-at-home list.

This super easy and super tasty Taco Pick-Up-Sticks Snack Mix, made with the addictive combination of potato sticks and French fried onions.

Potato sticks are like crunchy little mini french fries that come in a can.  They taste a lot like potato chips, but in a tiny stick form.

French fried onions are the crispy little onion rings you sprinkle all over the top of classic green bean casserole.  You know those things, right?

Well French Fried Onions, it's time to kick green bean casserole to the curb and dive in to a big ol' batch of this taco snack mix!

Now, let's talk taco for a sec.

While working on this recipe, I tried it with the originally-suggested packaged taco seasoning and with my own homemade taco seasoning blend.

The hubby and I liked the homemade seasoning version soooo much better than the packaged seasoning!  It was no contest, really.  So a homemade seasoning mixture is what we went with in this recipe.

And a homemade seasoning mix is so easy to whip up, with spices you most likely already have on hand.  I love that the homemade stuff has less salt, too.  Bonus all around!

To make a batch of this potato sticks snack mix, simply mix the spices with melted butter.  Then pour the seasoned butter mixture over the snack mix "stuff" -- a combo of potato sticks, French fried onions, and dry roasted peanuts.

Then bake the mix for about 30 minutes, stirring a couple of times as it bakes.

Let it cool and you're good to go with enjoying your Taco Potato Sticks Snack Mix deliciousness.  Now, wouldn't this taco-spiced snack mix be just perfect with a beer?  Oh yes, yes it would.

So whether you'd like a fun and flavorful snack treat for a party, movie, ball game, or for just snackin' at home with the family, give this tasty taco mix a try.

Though hmmmm, I wonder how this would taste seasoned like my absolute favorite Chex Mix.  I may just have to see ...

Enjoy!

  3. I think these are dangerous and should come with a warning, I bet they are addictive! Thank you for bringing them to Fiesta Friday and I am glad there isn't a bowl sitting next to my Friday night cocktail...definitely dangerous.

  4. This sounds SOOOO good. With you on the Chex mix. My SO is the oldest of 8. We make a TRASH bag full at Christmas and recycle the cereal bags and nut cans to gift it in! This year I saved enough for US; last year I didn't!
