Love lemon? Then a Limoncello Sunrise is the cocktail for you.

With its fabulously intense lemon flavor, I'm a total sucker for Limoncello. If you're not familiar with it, Limoncello is an Italian liqueur made from lemon zest, sugar, and vodka. -- And it's truly a lemon lover's dream.

Especially on a hot summer day, there's nothing like sipping on a cold shot of Limoncello, straight-up and chilled from the refrigerator. It's like drinking an intensely grown-up version of homemade lemonade. But with a kick.

And when you take that intense Limoncello lemon flavor and turn it into a sunrise cocktail? You get one strikingly beautiful and wonderfully delicious cocktail treat.

With its signature layered sunrise effect, a Limoncello Sunrise is one strikingly beautiful and tasty cocktail treat.

Sunrise cocktails get their name from their beautiful layered sunrise-mimicking color effect. This effect may look difficult to achieve, but it's truly not. Actually, it's really quite easy.

That beautiful signature sunrise effect is created by simply very slowly pouring grenadine syrup down the side of the glass after the other drink ingredients are already combined.

The grenadine sinks to the bottom of the drink, creating the striking red hue at the bottom.  The drink's combination of orange juice and Limoncello creates the yellow band at the top, while a little intermingling of everything together creates the beautiful variegated effect throughout the middle.

Super simple, right?

Super simple, absolutely delicious, and loaded with fabulous Limoncello lemon flavor -- Lemon lovers, what more could you ask for in a drink?

Limoncello Sunrise Ingredients:

It only takes 3 ingredients to make a beautiful and tasty Limoncello Sunrise. To whip one up, you'll need:

  • Orange juice
  • Limoncello Liqueur

Limoncello is an Italian liqueur with an intensely-lemon, slightly sweet flavor. It is commonly enjoyed straight, chilled in the refrigerator to be served icy cold. It can also be used to make lemony mixed cocktails like a Sparkling Limoncello Cooler or this Limoncello Sunrise, or to make tasty desserts like easy 3-ingredient Limoncello Ice Cream. You can find it in most liquor stores.

Grenadine is a sweet bright red syrup made from pomegranates, and is best known for giving the classic Shirley Temple drink its characteristic bright pink color and sweet taste.  It's also used to flavor other fruity cocktail favorites like Caribbean Rum Punch, Pineapple Upside-Down Cocktails, and our favorite Malibu Sunrise.  You can find grenadine syrup in a small bottle in the drink mixers section of the grocery store, or order grenadine online from Amazon.

How to Make a Limoncello Sunrise:

Though the colorful beauty of this drink makes it look difficult, making a Limoncello Sunrise is actually incredibly easy.

Start by simply placing a few ice cubes in a tall collins-style cocktail glass. Then pour in some orange juice and Limoncello. Give them a little stir to get them well combined.

Then slowly pour grenadine in down the side of the glass -- without stirring or disturbing it.
