I sure do love a classic Grasshopper Cocktail.  But you know what?  It's a cocktail that I often forget about.

But every time I do get around to making one and sipping on its minty deliciousness, I always think to myself I need to make them more often!

With its chocolate-mint flavor combination, the Grasshopper Cocktail is typically considered an after-dinner drink.  But I tell you what, I'll take one any time at all.

So thankfully, Grasshoppers are super easy to make.

Grasshopper Cocktail Ingredients:

They're simply a mixture of three ingredients ~ green creme de menthe, clear creme de cacao, and 1/2-&-1/2 (or whole milk, if you'd prefer or don't have 1/2-&-1/2 on hand).

Creme de menthe gives the cocktail its mint flavor and characteristic pretty green color.  Creme de cacao gives the tasty chocolate flavor.  And 1/2-&-1/2 gives the cocktail richness and nice smooth creaminess.  It's a combination whose refreshing minty-ness just can't be beat.

Whether it's after dinner or any other time you choose.

How to Make a Grasshopper Cocktail:

To make one, place equal parts creme de menthe, creme de cacao, and 1/2-&-1/2 in a cocktail shaker filled with ice.  Give the mixture a good shake and strain into a chilled martini glass.  That's all there is to it.

If you'd like to be fancy, garnish the cocktail with a few chocolate curls or a fresh mint leaf.  But this certainly isn't necessary to enjoy its great taste.

If you're a fan of chocolate and mint cocktails, give our favorite Chocolate Martini or our Thin Mint Cocktail a try, too.

And be sure not to forget about this classic Grasshopper Cocktail.  Whether you enjoy its minty deliciousness as an after-dinner drink as its intended, or any  time ... like me.  Because I certainly don't think this cocktail's fabulous flavor should be relegated solely to after dinner.

Do you?

  1. I haven't had one of those drinks in many many years. I was taught to use vanilla ice cream instead of the milk and put it all in a blender and mix it up. Either way I like it.

    1. The vanilla ice cream way sounds super tasty, too. I think it's time you whipped out that blender and enjoyed one of these Grasshopper Cocktails! :-)
