I was walking through the grocery store the other day when I spied boxes of beer bread mix on the shelf. Beer bread mixes are sold lots of other places, too ... little specialty stores, gift catalogs, and specialty food mix companies to name a few. I know we've all seen them.
And I know we've all bought these mixes at one time or another, too. Myself included.
But I got to thinking ~ hey, beer bread is actually really easy to make.
Needing just 3 simple ingredients + a beer, I mean, we're talkin' really, really easy to make.
And that's when I realized two things:
1. I hadn't made beer bread in a very long time.
2. I hadn't yet shared how to make beer bread on The Kitchen is My Playground.
Just follow these simple steps to whip up a totally gorgeous, quick and easy loaf of beer bread. No box mix needed, I swear.
Needing just 3 simple ingredients + a beer, I mean, we're talkin' really, really easy to make.

So I decided I should share this very simple beer bread recipe with you here on the blog. Just follow these simple steps to whip up a totally gorgeous, quick and easy loaf of beer bread.
To whip up a loaf, gather up your four simple ingredients ~ self-rising flour, granulated sugar, butter. And a beer. That's it.
Really.
Really.
Now when it comes to the beer, any beer will do.
Each variety of beer imparts a bit different flavor to the bread ... it's kinda fun to see what happens with different beers.

And you can definitely taste a hint of each beer's flavor in the baked bread ... so chances are, if you don't like the beer, you won't like the bread.

To prepare your loaf, just combine self-rising flour and a little sugar in a mixing bowl ...
... then pour in a 12 ounce beer ...
... and mix it all up until it comes together to create a sticky batter.
Place the batter in a standard-sized loaf pan.
Then pour melted butter all over the top.
Don't stir the melted butter into the batter.
Nope. Just leave the butter sitting all over the top if the batter.
Pop it in the oven and in about 45 minutes ... presto ... you've got beer bread.
Mmmm hmmmm. A gorgeous loaf of beer bread just waiting to be sliced up and enjoyed with a bowl of soup. Or chili. Or spaghetti. Or whatever you'd like!
Pretty cool for just 3 simple ingredients + a beer, don't you think?

ingredients:
- 3 c. self-rising flour
- 3 T. granulated sugar
- 1 (12 oz.) beer {any kind will do}
- 4 T. butter, melted
instructions:
How to cook How to Make Beer Bread: 3 Simple Ingredients + a Beer
- In a mixing bowl, stir together flour and sugar. Add beer; mix until well combined. Place batter in a greased loaf pan.
- Pour melted butter evenly over the top of batter in the pan. Do not stir.
- Bake at 375 degrees for 45 - 50 minutes. Serve warm or at room temperature.

I'm a novice at baking breads of any type. Do you think you could add grated/shredded cheese? If so, would you mix it with the dry flour mixture or after the beer has been added? Thanks for your help! Leslie
ReplyDeleteI would think adding cheese would work. I would start with less than a cup and see how it goes. It would probably be easiest to stir the cheese into the dry flour mixture, and then add the beer. Let me know how it goes, Leslie Anne!

I have been making beer bread for years. I have found that if I let it rise for an hour in the pan and then add the butter then bake, the loaf isn't so dense. Wow, that was a run on sentence! Beer bread is also yummy toasted.

I actually decided to make this bread again except this time I added some roasted garlic I made myself with a bit of Garlic powder 1 Tbs and a cup of shredded cheddar cheese and WOW is all I can say lol this recipe is definitely a keeper.
