Who remembers the classic McDonald's Filet-O-Fish commercial featuring that
quirky wall-mounted singing fish? Its catchy little "Gimme back that
Filet-O-Fish, gimme that fish!" jingle was one that would stick in your head
for days, for sure. And it was a commercial that absolutely made me
belly-laugh out loud. Every. Single. Time.
Believe it or not, that quirky singing fish commercial debuted in 2009, with
the campaign ending sometime around 2015 -- which is way longer ago than I
thought. The nostalgia of those classic Filet-O-Fish advertising days seems
like it was just yesterday.
While the singing fish ad days may be gone, the Filet-O-Fish Sandwich is still
around and going strong. And we've come up with a tasty way to enjoy its
classic deliciousness at home in fun mini form -- copycat Filet-O-Fish
sliders!

Filet-O-Fish Slider Ingredients:
It takes just 4 simple ingredients to make copycat Filet-O-Fish Sliders.
To whip up a batch, you'll need:
- King's Hawaiian savory rolls - We prefer the savory version of King's Hawaiian rolls for more authentic File-O-Fish taste, but King's Hawaiian sweet rolls (or any other small slider rolls) will also work in this recipe.
- Frozen breaded fish fillets - Choose breaded, not battered, frozen fish fillets for the closest copycat to the real thing. Battered will work in the sliders, of course, but won't give the crunch texture so characteristic of a McDonald's Filet-O-Fish sandwich.
- American cheese - Good-old packaged processed American cheese slices are in keeping with the McDonald's-copycat way! We use and recommend Kraft Singles American cheese slices.
- Tartar sauce - Choose your favorite bottled tartar sauce for ease of prep. Or make your own from scratch, if you prefer.
How to Make Filet-O-Fish Sliders:
Filet-O-Fish Sliders are truly ridiculously easy to make.
Start by baking some frozen fish fillets according to their package directions, adding about 2-3
minutes to the baking time to get them extra crispy. Be sure to choose breaded, not battered, frozen fish fillets for the
closest copycat to the real thing.
After they're baked, cut each fish fillet into 2 pieces, each sized to fit on top of one
slider roll.
While the fish fillets bake, use a serrated knife to slice a pack of
Kings Hawaiian savory rolls open horizontally. Cover the bottom
portion of the rolls with a layer of American cheese slices.
Place a fish fillet piece on the bottom portion of each slider roll,
arranging them on top of the cheese slices.
Spoon about a teaspoon (or more to taste, if you'd like) of tartar
sauce over each piece of fish. Then place the top portion of rolls on
top.
Pop the pan of sliders back in the oven and warm them for about 3-5
minutes until the rolls are heated through and the cheese is
melted.
Then you're ready to serve up the Filet-O-Fish Slider deliciousness!
Serve them warm as a fun and tasty game day or party snack, or with a
side of fruit or salad for a quick-and-easy dinner.
But no matter when you choose to enjoy them, these little copycat
Filet-O-Fish sliders deliver up big Filet-O-Fish flavor in every bite.

flavor in every bite.
Prep time: 15 MinCook time: 30 MinTotal time: 45 Min
Ingredients
- 6 frozen breaded fish fillets
- 5 slices American cheese
- about 1/3 c. tartar sauce
- 1 (12-count) package King's Hawaiian savory rolls
Instructions
- Bake fish fillets according to package directions, adding about 2-3 minutes to the baking time for extra crispiness.
- While fish fillets bake, use a serrated knife to slice rolls open horizontally. Cover the bottom portion of the rolls with a layer of American cheese slices, cutting one cheese slice in half to make them fit.
- Once baked, remove fish fillets from oven and turn oven off. Cut each fish fillet into 2 pieces, each sized to fit on top of one slider roll. Place a fish fillet piece on the bottom portion of each slider roll, on top of the cheese slices.
- Spoon about a teaspoon (or more to taste) of tartar sauce over each piece of fish fillet. Place top portion of rolls on top.
- Line the pan on which the fish fillets were baked with a piece of aluminum foil; place sliders on top of foil. Return pan to the still-warm turned-off oven and warm sliders for 3-5 minutes until rolls are heated through and cheese is melted. Serve warm.
TRACEY'S NOTES:
- King's Hawaiian sweet rolls or any other small slider rolls can be substituted for the King's Hawaiian savory rolls just fine.
- Be sure to choose breaded, not battered, frozen fish fillets for the closest copycat to the real thing. Battered will work in the sliders, of course, but won't give the crunch texture so characteristic of a McDonald's Filet-O-Fish sandwich.
