February is the month of love! And that's exactly why the folks at REAL® Seal invited me to share a recipe this month {featuring a REAL®-certified dairy product, of course} that shows someone that I love them.
This was a very easy invitation for me, my friends. Because I'm thrilled to say that just a few short weeks ago ... 7 weeks ago yesterday, to be exact ... my husband and I welcomed a 5-year-old little girl into our family!!
In those short 7 weeks, Little Miss H has already filled our home and our hearts with love. Sure, life is way crazier, free time is non-existent, and a quiet house is something from a by-gone era ... but the amazing bear-hugs are way more plentiful!
Would you like to know two of Little Miss H's loves?
Chocolate. And helping me out in the kitchen. A girl truly after my heart, right there! So of course, we had to combine those two loves ... and whip up a batch of homemade Hot Chocolate Mix together. And of course, we've had to enjoy several mugfuls together, too!
Our homemade hot chocolate mix recipe is based on the homemade hot chocolate mix my Mom used to make for me when I was growing up. At the start of every winter, Mom would make a huge batch of mix and store it in a big jar in our cupboard. On countless days throughout the winter, we'd enjoy delicious mugfuls of hot chocolate after playing for hours on-end out in the cold Vermont snow. There was just nothing better to thaw you out from that cold!
Now, I feel as though I'm passing the hot chocolate love down to the next generation. And that warms my heart ... almost as much as a big ol' bear hug from Little Miss H.
The hot chocolate mix gets it's creaminess from REAL®-certified Carnation instant nonfat dry milk ...

Then to whip up this homemade Hot Chocolate Mix, simply place REAL® Carnation instant nonfat dry milk in a large container and add chocolate milk powder, cocoa, confectioners' sugar, and coffee creamer. Next, shake it up all up until it's well combined. For our batch, the shaking was a job that Little Miss H took on ...
Once all the fun shaking is done, you've got homemade Hot Chocolate Mix at-the-ready whenever you get a hankering to enjoy a mugful.
