With it's tasty mix of hearty bourbon and pure maple syrup, I think this maple-icious cocktail is a representation of my Northern and Southern roots coming together!  Yes, for those who don't know, I was born and raised in Vermont ... and then moved to the good-ol' South just before my 24th birthday.

Which means I've lived almost the same number of years in each place.

Now when it comes to cocktails, what could be more Southern than bourbon?  Okay, okay ... perhaps moonshine ... but bourbon is certainly right up there as a quintessential Southern drink.

And when that good-ol' Southern bourbon pairs up with the maple sweetness of Vermont's liquid gold, it's magic in a glass.  Be sure to use real, pure maple syrup though, as that fake stuff in a plastic squeeze bottle simply just won't do.

A good squeeze of fresh lemon juice beautifully rounds out this cocktail's flavor, adding a nice zing of freshness ... and a pinch of cinnamon makes it just perfect for Fall sipping.  But do be warned ~ being about 2/3 straight bourbon, this is indeed a stiff drink!

So if you're like me and love both bourbon and pure maple syrup, give them a whirl together in this tasty Bourbon Maple Leaf Cocktail.  It sure brings together two of my all-time favorites in a wonderful way!

Bourbon Maple Leaf Cocktail
(Printable recipe)
For each cocktail:
Ingredients
  • 2 oz. bourbon
  • 1 oz. pure maple syrup
  • 1/4 to 1/2 oz. fresh lemon juice {about 1/2 lemon, squeezed}*
  • pinch ground cinnamon
Directions
  1. In a cocktail glass, stir together bourbon and maple syrup until well combined.
  2. Add lemon juice and cinnamon; stir. Add several ice cubes; stir.
*Note:
Add fresh lemon juice to suit your personal taste.  I prefer this cocktail with the 1/4 ounce of lemon juice, which lets the maple flavor shine through more fully.  My husband prefers it with the 1/2 ounce lemon juice.  I recommend not omitting the lemon juice altogether though, as it balances out and adds a nice freshness to the cocktail.

Enjoy!
