In the South, nothing says the holidays like delicious pecan-topped sweet potatoes.  And my new favorite way to enjoy this classic Southern dish is Sister Schubert's Sweet Potato Pie!  It's a light and fluffy, pecan-topped Sweet Potato Pie, straight from the recipe box of Sister Schubert herself.  And it's served as a side dish, more than a dessert.  Thank you so much to Sister Schubert for hosting me in her home, and for sponsoring this post.

A little bit ago in my Turkey & Stuffing Sliders post, I shared that I was going to have the great privilege of traveling to Sister Schubert's in Andalusia, Alabama to cook with her in her home.  Well I'm back, and I had an absolutely amazing time!

Sister is truly one of the kindest, most thoughtful people I have had the pleasure to meet ... not to mention, the most gracious hostess, as well.  I'm so excited to share with you experiences from my trip, Sister Schubert's sweet potato pie, and 5 holiday personal touches I learned from Sister to make holiday guests feel extra special.  'Cause let me tell ya, Sister sure made me  feel extra special!

Nothing says comfort like good old macaroni and cheese.  It's my all-time absolute favorite comfort food dish, for sure.

Growing up, I loved when Mom would make a huge pan of her totally yummy baked macaroni and cheese, full of flavor and oozing with gooey melty cheese.  She'd make a creamy white sauce on the stove, layer that up with macaroni and tons of shredded cheese, and then bake it all up until it was hot and bubbly.

It was a true labor of love, for sure.

Nothing says comfort like good old macaroni and cheese.  It's my all-time absolute favorite comfort food dish, for sure.

But, you know ... when delicious creamy macaroni and cheese can be made in just 15 minutes on the stove top? That's even better!

And when it includes a tasty combination of 5 cheeses ... and bacon?? Oh my. Comfort food at its finest.

If this sounds great to you, like it sure does to me, you're going to want to check out the new Back Around the Table: An "In the Kitchen with David" Cookbook. The second book from QVC's resident foodie, David Venable, Back Around the Table: An "In the Kitchen with David" Cookbook includes more than 100 recipes, all featuring David's personal spin on traditional comfort food favorites.

Holiday Mulled Cranberry Tea

November 15, 2014
Mulled cider and mulled wine step aside ... there's a new mulled beverage in town!  Mulled Cranberry Tea is my new favorite Fall and holiday warm spiced drink.  Give it a try - it'll be your new favorite, too.

Holiday Mulled Cranberry Tea

When the cooler temperatures come around, I'm all about warm drinks.  There's just something so comforting about holding a warm mug and sipping away.

And when that warm drink just so happens to have been simmered with the deliciousness of cinnamon and cloves?  Even better.  And even more comforting.  And let me just say, I'm loving that tea and cranberry have joined forces in this version of mulled comfort.

But when I first ran across the recipe inspiration for this Mulled Cranberry Tea in the Crock-Pot Slow Cooker Bible cookbook, I was really skeptical.  I mean, with cranberry as the major component, wouldn't it be tart?  Like, too tart to even enjoy?

Oh you guys, I'm so excited!  Not only is it the time of year when I get to enjoy one of my favorite Thanksgiving treats ~ Turkey and Stuffing Sliders Sandwiches with Sister Schubert's Parker House Style Rolls ... next week I'm going to meet Sister Schubert herself!  I'm so honored to have been invited to Sister's home and to have Sister Schubert's sponsoring this post.

It's probably no surprise that Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday.  With all the fabulous food prepared for this single day, it's a food blogger's {and food lover's} dream.

And when it comes to making fabulous food for a delicious Thanksgiving meal, our family goes all out ... most of it prepared at the hands of my wonderful Mom.

One thing that's always on our Thanksgiving dinner menu?  ~ Sister Schubert's Parker House Style Rolls.

Now, let's talk about this for just a second.  Because we're pretty much a make-it-yourself-from-scratch household when it comes to our baked goods.

So if we're a make-it-yourself household, why do we have Sister Schubert's rolls for Thanksgiving dinner, you ask?  It's simple.  Because Sister Schubert's makes them better than we do.  No joke.

My Weekend at the "Dirty Dancing" Lodge {Mountain Lake Lodge for #MixedCon}

November 10, 2014
Mountain-Lake-Lodge-Main-Building

Today I'm in the kitchen baking ... with the soundtrack to "Dirty Dancing" playing in the background.  Want to know why I'm listening to "Dirty Dancing" music?  {Other than because it's totally awesome  music, that is.}  Well, I just got back from a weekend at Mountain Lake Lodge in Virginia, which just so happens to be the lodge at which much of "Dirty Dancing" was filmed.  Cool!

So yeh, I kinda still have "Dirty Dancing" on the brain.

I was in high school when the movie came out and I immediately fell in love with it.  I mean, what teenage high school girl of the 80's didn't fall in love with the star-crossed lovers' story of Baby and Johnny??

Want to see some pictures I took while I was there?  'Cause I'll be more than happy to show them to ya!

Whole Grain Pancake Mix {my new go-to mix!}

November 7, 2014
Whole Grain Pancake Mix is easy to whip up at home.  Keep a batch on hand and enjoy the best light, fluffy, flavorful whole grain pancakes around.

Whole Grain Pancake Mix

I am a huge fan of pancakes ... though I usually enjoy them as breakfast-for-dinner instead of as traditional breakfast food.  Hey, there's absolutely nothing wrong with breakfast-for-dinner!  It's one of my faves.

And when it comes to 'bread goods' in our house ~ including our pancakes and waffles, we try to eat only whole grain.  'Try' being the key word.  We're works in progress on that.  But want to know one thing that's definitely helping us out with the whole grain thing?

This Whole Grain Pancake Mix.  Oh.  My.  Gosh.  You all.  This mix makes the best pancakes I've ever had.  No joke.

No-Bake Snicker Bar Pie Image

Well, we just finished up our first Halloween at our new house!  It was so sweet to see all the new-to-us neighborhood kids in their sweet little costumes.  And I was impressed with all their great manners!  So wonderful to see and hear.

We didn't have as many trick-or-treaters as I anticipated we would.  So ... I've got quite a bit of leftover candy.  But I didn't wait for the leftovers to make this scrumptious Snicker Bar Pie.

Nope.
