Turtle Krispie Treats

October 11, 2013
Transform classic krispie treats into scrumptious and fun Turtle Krispie Treats with layers of ooey-gooey caramel, chocolate, and chopped pecans on top.  It's krispie treats all jazzed up!

Thank you to Concord Foods Caramel Apple Wrap for sponsoring this post.

Hey, have you heard of Concord Foods Caramel Apple Wrap?  Until a few weeks ago, I hadn't either.  But now I'm having tons of fun creating with this versatile caramel product!  The realm of their possibility goes waaaaaaaaaay beyond the basic caramel apple.  They work fabulously for adding a layer of caramel in your baked goods, or ... as is the case with these scrumptious Turtle Krispie Treats ... in your non-baked goods, too.

When the wonderful folks at Concord Foods reached out to me to see if I was interested in creating a few recipes with their Caramel Apple Wrap, it was an easy decision to say, "Absolutely!"

I mean, how fun are these?

The caramel comes in discs that make it super easy to make caramel apples ... and also make it super easy to add a layer of yummy caramel to other sweet treats.  So my mind was immediately spinning with ideas.

Like the outrageously good Caramel Pumpkin Snack Cake I shared last week.  And these scrumptious and fun jazzed-up Turtle Krispie Treats.  {and about a billion other ideas I have swimming around in my mind}

I love the way the caramel and the chocolate get all melty into the Rice Krispies in these treats.

To create these, simply whip up a batch of classic krispie treats ... then grab a pack of Caramel Apple Wrap ...

... and lay the caramel discs on top of the still-warm treats.  The caramel will get a bit melty and gooey on the top of the treats.  {Yum!}  Sprinkle with a few chopped pecans ...

... and then spread on a nice generous layer of melted chocolate.  {More yum!}

Finally, sprinkle on some more chopped pecans and drizzle with more yummy caramel.

Then get ready to dig in to a tasty treat!  {pun intended ... ha}   A jazzed up turtle treat, that is!

Turtle Krispie Treats
Source:  A Tracey creation
Ingredients
  • 1/4 c. unsalted butter
  • 1 (10.5 oz.) package mini marshmallows
  • 5 c. Rice Krispies cereal
  • 1 package Concord Foods Caramel Apple Wrap (5 caramel discs)
  • 1/3 c. chopped pecans
  • 2 c. semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 T. shortening
Directions
  1. Spray a 9x13" pan with non-stick cooking spray; set aside.
  2. In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Gently stir in the rice krispies until well coated. Press lightly into the prepared pan. (Don't press down too much or you'll have dense, hard krispie treats.)
  3. Lay four of the caramel discs on top of the rice krispies, overlapping and/or cutting the caramel discs as needed to fit. Sprinkle with 2 tablespoons of the chopped pecans.
  4. In a microwave safe bowl, combine the chocolate chips and shortening. Heat for 30 seconds and stir. Repeat until the chips are melted and smooth. Spread evenly over the krispie treats. Sprinkle with the remaining chopped pecans.
  5. Place the remaining caramel disc and 1 teaspoon of water in a glass measuring cup or bowl. Microwave on high at 15 second intervals, stirring after every 15 seconds, until melted and smooth (this should only take 30 to 45 seconds total time). Using a spoon, drizzle over the top of the krispie treats.
  6. Let set and cool completely before cutting into squares.
Enjoy!
