When my Mom was growing up, she said not a day went by that my grandmother didn't serve dessert after dinner.

My grandmother was always baking cakes, or her classic peanut butter cookies, or other sweet treats like my Mom's childhood favorite old-fashioned donuts.  And no dinner was complete without serving up one of these sweets to end the meal.

It's a dessert philosophy my Mom carried forward, as well.

Though Mom did back off a little bit, and we didn't necessarily have dessert every  night ... There was a night off every now and then.  Probably needless to say, because of our family's tradition of dessert, we all have developed quite a sweet tooth.

Since us kids have moved out of the house and Mom doesn't really want to bake desserts all the time for her and my Dad, Mom has created a new dessert philosophy for herself.

I must say, drinking your dessert is a very clever way to combine satisfying your sweet tooth with the art of enjoying an after-dinner drink.  I'm loving Mom's new philosophy.

And I must say, her new dessert philosophy is a clever one I can definitely get behind ~ Ingeniously, Mom's new philosophy is to drink her dessert.

I must say, drinking your dessert is a very clever way to combine satisfying your sweet tooth with the art of enjoying an after-dinner drink.  I'm loving Mom's new philosophy, and frequently use it myself, too.

Quite often, Mom will reach for a sweet wine or a glass of port as her dessert.  But with its tasty combination of Bailey's Irish Cream, Kahlua, and amaretto, I'm going to recommend she add this Buttered Toffee cocktail to her line-up.

Now, individually, each one of these three liquors is one of my absolute favorites.  Poured over ice, I'd happily enjoy a little glass of each one straight-up.  They're after-dinner-drink perfection all on their own.

But when you join them together in this Buttered Toffee cocktail?

Their individual after-dinner-drink perfection gets even better.  Combined with a little touch of cream, it's a deliciously sweet combination that's cocktail heaven on earth.

It's a perfect flavor combination for an after-dinner drink or late evening night-cap.  Or, in Mom's case, for drinking your dessert.

When I was first trying out this cocktail, I was skeptical the mixture of liquors would actually taste like buttered toffee, as the cocktail name promises.  But when the nutty sweetness of amaretto mixes with the Bailey's and coffee-laced Kahlua, it truly does taste like rich buttered toffee.

It's wonderful served up in martini glasses ...

I garnished my Buttered Toffee cocktail with a small sprinkling of Heath toffee bits to accentuate the toffee aspect, and with a Pirouline wafer cookie for fun.

But both of these garnishes are completely optional.  Leave them off if you'd like.

So, what do you think?

With it's deliciously sweet combination of Bailey's Irish cream, Kahlua, and amaretto, is this Buttered Toffee cocktail a good one to add to Mom's drink-your-dessert line-up?

I sure think it is!

This tasty cocktail and Mom's philosophy of drinking your dessert are both  things I can definitely get behind.

  1. This is already a drink called an Orgasm. If you had vodka then you have a Screaming Orgasm. Either way and any name, they are all yummy
