Okay everybody, warm up those voices and belt out your loudest rendition of "Happy Birthday!"  Because today, my friends, is my birthday.  I can hardly believe it's the 16th anniversary of my 29th birthday.  {Have you got that figured out?}

In celebration of my extra-special day, I decided to have a little birthday cake fun.  Birthday cake of the white-chocolate-dipped made-extra-pretty-and-festive-with-sprinkles Oreo kind.

This simple little Birthday Cake Oreos treat truly couldn't be simpler.  Yet, it delivers up lots of festive fun with its bright sprinkles and tasty Oreo yumminess.

Doesn't everyone love an Oreo?  We sure are Oreo lovers at our house.  In fact, my husband even considers them breakfast food.  He grabs a few almost every morning to have along with his daily cup of coffee.

And as tasty as they are, it's hard to believe you can make an Oreo better than it already is.  But somehow, dipping Oreos in white chocolate indeed does just that.

Then with a simple little sprinkling of bright nonpareils sprinkles, Oreos are all dressed up and ready to party.  Certainly worthy of a birthday celebration, don't you think?

I had fun trying out different types of sprinkles to see which ones I liked best.  Personally, I like a tiny sprinkling of the small ball-shaped nonpareils sprinkles pictured in the center below.  And brightly colored sprinkles give a fabulous pop of color I love.

But which sprinkles to use and how much to sprinkle on is certainly a matter of personal preference ... they're all fun, for sure!

As you can see on the Oreo on the left of the center row, I decided to get heavy-handed with one to see how it looked.  It's looks great, but I still like the simplicity of a small sprinkling better.

My absolute favorites of the batch, though?  The Oreo minis!

I brought a bunch of these Birthday Cake Oreos to a pool party not long ago, and the minis were gone in a flash.  They were especially enjoyed by the kids.

Do be warned though ... the minis are so easy to pop in your mouth, you can gobble up a bunch in a flash!

Birthday Cake Oreos don't need to be relegated solely to birthdays, though.  Change up the sprinkle colors for any occasion.

Want a fun bridal shower or wedding treat?  Use just white nonpareils sprinkles.

Want a fun baby shower treat?  Use white nonpareils sprinkles and light blue, pink, or yellow sanding sugar.

Any way you adorn them however, Birthday Cake Oreos {and their other-occasion friends} are ready to celebrate!  And you'll love inviting these super easy, crowd-pleasing treats to the party, I'm sure.

How to cook Birthday Cake Oreos

  1. In a small deep bowl, melt bark coating or candy melts and shortening together in the microwave per package directions (typically in 30 second intervals, stirring in between).
  2. One at a time, drop each Oreo into the candy coating and push down with a fork to fully coat. Slide fork under the Oreo and lift it from the candy coating, letting excess coating drip off back into the bowl. Be careful not to "stir" the Oreos around in the candy coating, as you'll end up with crumb flecks throughout the coating.
  3. Place on waxed paper. Immediately sprinkle with nonpareils. Let stand for coating to set up.
  4. Store in an airtight container for up to two or three weeks.
TRACEY'S NOTES:
  1. To minimize crumbs in the white candy coating, it's helpful to hold each Oreo over a paper towel or the cookie package and gently tap it to remove some of the crumbs.
  2. Use other sprinkle colors for different occasions. The combination of white nonpareils with any color of sparkly sanding sugar is always pretty!

  1. Cute and tasty. There used to be a shop in Austin that made chocolate covered Oreos. Truly a tasty treat!
