I grew up in Canada and you didn't use to be able to get Chex there, but I do remember making something similar to this with my Mom. We called it Nuts and Bolts because we used pretzel sticks and Cheerios! Yum. We always used Tidbits cheese crackers in ours, but they don't make those anymore ... so Goldfish are my "modern" choice to replace those. No one made it with Cheerios in the region of the country where I grew up (Vermont), but once I moved South to North Carolina I started seeing the with-Cheerios version. Homemade Chex Mix is extra-beautiful for just that reason ~ switch it up to include what you LOVE. It had Cheerios, which is how I always make it. It is so much better than the store bought stuff. I like to double the seasonings. Yummy stuff! The taste is hard to beat. My mom made a big roaster full at Christmas too.
