Bourbon Little Smokies Recipe image

I've been on a little bourbon kick lately.  Not just drinking it ... cooking with it, too!  And man alive, does bourbon make great food treats.  Like the Salted Dark Chocolate Bourbon Fudge I shared back around Christmas, Bourbon Whipped Cream that's great on pumpkin pie, and these tasty little Bourbon & Bacon Steamed Mussels.

And this Bourbon Little Smokies recipe.  That I'm going to be making over and over and over again for parties and game day snacks.

But I mean, should I be surprised that bourbon makes such good food treats?  When it tastes so good all on it's own?
I think not.

My favorite way to enjoy bourbon is the classic bourbon & ginger ... a good generous shot of bourbon with just a touch of ginger ale.  Ah, the sweet-smokiness of bourbon pairs so well with the touch of sweetness from the ginger ale.  It's one of my absolute favorite classic cocktail combinations.

And that same sweet-smokiness of bourbon pairs so well with brown sugar and the mild heat of chili sauce to form the sauce in this Bourbon Little Smokies recipe, deliciously surrounding and embracing the Lit'l Smokies.

Kind of like drinking bourbon & ginger, once you start eating these, you'll have a hard time stopping.

And if you're serving these at a party ... which they're PERfect for ... your guests will have a hard time stopping eating them, too.  But that's certainly not a bad thing.  Not a bad thing at all.

So for the perfect party fare, grab your bottle of bourbon and douse some Lit'l Smokies with it!  With the yumminess of this Bourbon Little Smokies recipe, you'll be so glad you did.

prep time: 10 Mcook time: 1 hourtotal time: 1 H & 10 M

ingredients:

  • 2 (14 oz.) packages Lit'l Smokies cocktail links
  • 1 c. bottled chili sauce { 1 (12 oz.) bottle}
  • 3/4 c. bourbon
  • 1/2 c. brown sugar
  • 1 T. grated onion

instructions:

How to cook Bourbon Little Smokies

  1. In a saucepan, mix together chili sauce, bourbon, brown sugar, and onion. Add Lit'l smokies {I rinse them first to take away some of the saltiness} and stir to coat.
  2. Bring to a simmer over medium to medium-high heat. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, over low heat for 1 hour. {If mixture becomes too thick, add a bit more bourbon.}
  3. Serve warm with toothpicks.
TRACEY'S NOTES:
  1. Slow Cooker/Crock Pot alternative method: Mix together chili sauce, bourbon, brown sugar, and onion in a slow cooker; add Lit'l smokies, stirring to coat. Cook on high for about 3 to 4 hours, or low for about 6 hours.
