Why is it that incredibly easy dishes are quite often the best?  It seems as though the simplest of things tend to be our favorites.

Like with this Fruit Cocktail Fluff, as we call it in our family.

Seriously, this stuff is so simple I hesitate to even call it a recipe.  But man alive, do I love it.  Recipe or not.
Also referred to as fruit cocktail salad, fruit cocktail ambrosia, and easy ambrosia, this creamy concoction requires just three simple ingredients to make.

Seriously, this stuff is so simple I hesitate to even call it a recipe.  But man alive, do we love it.  Recipe or not.

And takes less than 5 minutes to mix up. Then?  You just need to give it a little wait time in the refridge.

And believe me, that's the only  hard part of this "recipe" ~ The waiting.

But you've got to wait ... for everything to get all "right" together.

Fruit Cocktail Fluff Ingredients:

So what are the three simple ingredients needed to make this easy comfort food favorite? Quite simply, all you need to whip up a bowl of Fruit Cocktail Fluff are:

If you're not a fan of Cool Whip, you could certainly make your own homemade whipped cream instead.  Homemade whipped cream will work just great, too.  Whip together about 3/4 cup whipping cream, 1 & 1/2 tablespoons sugar, and 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract and it should do the trick.

How to Make Fruit Cocktail Fluff:

To whip up this easy Fruit Cocktail Fluff, start by draining a can of fruit cocktail -- but don't drain it super well. You want to leave a little bit of the juice to mix with and be absorbed by the fluff salad's marshmallows.

Place the mostly-drained fruit cocktail and some mini marshmallows in a bowl and stir them together. Add in a container of Cool Whip and stir gently until everything's well combined. Refrigerate the fluff for at least six hours, or until marshmallows are really soft.

During the "waiting" time in the refrigerator, the marshmallows soak up juice from the fruit cocktail and moisture from the Cool Whip, and get all soft and mushy and "right."

The squishy, creamy, comfort food kind of "right."

Which sometimes is just the kind of "right" you crave and need.

Letting the ingredients sufficiently meld together creates this Fruit Cocktail Fluff's soft and creamy texture we love so much.

It may be tempting to shortcut the waiting time on this recipe, but I don't recommend that.  Letting the ingredients sufficiently meld together creates this Fruit Cocktail Fluff's soft and creamy texture we love so much.  Do let this sit for the full recommended time.

Or making it the day before you plan to serve it would be even better!

So, whether we call this simple 3-ingredient deliciousness a recipe or not is neither here nor there to me.  I just know that, like so many incredibly easy dishes, this  incredibly easy dish is a family favorite.

And for me, that makes it just "right."
