Strawberry Milk {Kid-Friendly or Spiked}

June 8, 2014
Remember the strawberry milk mix we loved as a kid?  Well, ditch the mix and whip up a batch of strawberry milk with fresh strawberries.  Oh, yes you can!

I absolutely love strawberry season, and it's in full swing here in North Carolina.  Fresh-from-the-field, juicy, bright-red-all-the-way-through strawberries just can't be beat.  Well, I decided to enjoy some of these extra yummy fresh-from-the-field strawberries in a treat that's a throwback to my youth ...
... strawberry milk!

Remember this stuff?

Well, you don't need it to enjoy a delicious glass of strawberry milk.

Nope.

You just need some strawberries!  Imagine that.

Seriously, whipping up a batch of fresh strawberry milk is easy.  Simply toss some hulled strawberries in a food processor with a little bit of sugar ...

... and give 'em a whirl until pureed.

Mix the strawberry puree with milk and a bit of vanilla extract ...

... and pour yourself a big ol' glass to enjoy.

See?  Simple!

If you want an even simpler way to enjoy fabulous strawberry flavor, then how about strawberry popcorn?

All you have to do to enjoy strawberry popcorn is 'pop' on over to visit my friends at Tastebuds Popcorn and order it up online!  See, even simpler than making strawberry milk.

 'Pop' on over to visit the Tastebuds Popcorn website and place your order today.  With over 200 flavors, you're sure to find a few you'll love!

But if liquid strawberry joy is what you're craving, then go ahead ... be a kid again.  Whip up a batch of strawberry milk ... fresh  strawberry milk, that is.

Of course, if you don't want to be a complete  kid again, then do what I do and spike this little milk treat.  Mmmmm hmmmm, trust me, it's delicious.

My favorite add-in?  White Creme de Cacao ... it's like chocolate covered  strawberry milk.  Need I say more?

Yup, the strawberry milk we loved as a kid ... but soooooooo much better.

Strawberry Milk

(Printable recipe)

Ingredients
  • 4 c. fresh hulled strawberries
  • 4 T. granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • pinch salt
  • 3 c. milk
Directions
  1. Place strawberries and sugar in a food processor or blender; process until smooth, stopping to scrape down the sides as needed. Strain mixture through a mesh strainer into a bowl. As you strain, press mixture through the strainer with the back of a spoon to get all the juice through. Discard pulp. {Straining is an optional step, but it produces a much smoother milk. If you skip the straining, the final product will be thicker and you will have the seeds and pulp to "chew."}
  2. Stir in vanilla extract and salt; then stir in milk. Chill for 1 hour before serving.
NOTE:  For a spiked version, stir your liquor of choice into each serving.  Here's three options I liked:
- Rum {1 & 1/2 oz. per 8 oz. of strawberry milk}
- Malibu Rum {about 1 & 1/2 oz. per 8 oz. of strawberry milk}
- White Creme de Cacao {3 oz. per 8 oz. of strawberry milk ~ my favorite ... it's chocolate covered  strawberry milk!}

Enjoy!
